Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)

Payroll certification opens many doors for payroll professionals. The wealth of knowledge covered on the Fundamental Payroll Certification exam is immeasurable for your future. Not only does this designation help secure promotions and demonstrate your value to your organization, but it also enhances your standing within the entire payroll profession. The exam consists of 150 questions, and candidates have 3 hours to complete it.

Fundamental Payroll Certification

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

A certification credential for those with extensive payroll knowledge and experience. The CPP designation demonstrates you've taken the hard road to continue your education, proves your dedication to the payroll profession, and opens doors for career growth. CPPs earn about $10,000 more on average than those without certification, and more than 70% of payroll departments have at least one CPP on their team, making the credential both valuable and widely recognized. The exam consists of 190 questions, and candidates have 4 hours to complete it.

Certified Payroll Professional

When do I Register?
The SPRING exam registration window will be open November 10, 2025 through April 17, 2026. Candidates will sit for the exam January 5 through April 18, 2026. The exam will feature questions based on federal laws and regulations in effect as of January 1, 2025.

The FALL exam registration window will be open July 1, 2026, through October 2, 2026. Candidates will sit for the exam September 5 through October 3, 2026. The exam will feature questions based on federal laws and regulations in effect as of January 1, 2026.
